“Aspirations for TICAD7 by African and Japanese Civil Society”
MUTUALLY BENEFICIAL COLLABORATION PROPELLING AFRICA TOWARDS 2063
“TICAD that architects truly multi-stakeholder structure for Africa’s development”

 In preparation for the TICAD 7 Summit, which is going to be held in Yokohama Japan in 2019, African and Japanese Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) held a meeting in Yaoundé, Cameroon from 20th to 22nd August 2018. At the meeting, the representatives of 38 CSOs from 10 countries came up with 7 aspirations for “the TICAD We Want”, a TICAD that addresses Africa’s challenges and aspiration as articulated in the African Union’s Agenda 2063 as well as SDGs’ main message “Leave no one behind”.

The event will seek to identify how TICAD 7 can support the progress of Agenda 2063 and achievement of SDGs, by sharing our recommendation made at the Cameroon CSOs meeting in August. The case studies of African and Japanese CSOs’ projects will be also introduced to discuss how CSOs can contribute to the implementation of TICAD as well as Agenda 2063 and SDGs, with strong commitments for “Leave no one behind”.

Event description

  • Recommendation of CSOs – “Civil Society Aspirations for The TICAD We want”
  • The CSOs representatives at the Cameroon meetings identified 6 top development priorities for Africa, including sustainable financing and Africa’s digital potential, and based on these 6 top priorities, we came up with 7 aspirations for the ‘TICAD We Want’. In this section, members of African and Japanese CSOs will present 6 top development priorities and 7 aspirations for the ‘TICAD We Want”, as an outcome of the Cameroon meeting.
  • Good practices of CSOs’ projects – towards TICAD7, Agenda 2063 and SDGs
  • 83 projects were implemented by Japanese NGOs in Africa from 2014 to 2016*, and a number of African NGOs have been actively contributing to the progress of Agenda 2063 and SDGs. The members of African and Japanese NGOs will present their good practices in Africa to showcase what role CSOs can play to support implementation of TICAD process.
